WHO WAS BERNIE?

I'm an SOB - a "Son of Bernie" that is. "Son of Bernie" started out as a tribute to my late father (the finest man I've ever known) but also features my interests in amateur "ham" radio, private aviation, bluegrass guitar, military history and family.

Who was Bernie?

My father was the very best of the Greatest Generation.  He fought his way through the Pacific in the living hells of Guadalacanal and other locations which should never be forgotten. Like many of his brothers in arms, he came home after the war and quietly raised his family.

My brothers and I (Tom, and Jack Hanrahan and our late brother, Bob) are the grown sons of Bernie Hanrahan (1916 - 2003), thus the Sons of Bernie.  We are dedicated to preserving the memory of the man who gave us the the ideals that would shape us as men.  Our father was the very best of the Greatest Generation.  He fought his way through the Pacific in the living hells of Guadalacanal and other locations which should never be forgotten. Like many of his brothers in arms, he came home after the war and quietly raised his family.  He typified strength, loyalty and courage in everything he did.

The SOBs realize that we owe him a debt that can never be repaid and we cherish his memory.

We are immensely proud to be his sons

"If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven’s scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines."
