Santa Net Commences Its 20th Consecutive Year

Good boys and girls can talk to Santa Claus again this year on amateur radio. Starting Friday, November 28, the 3916 Nets will present the Santa Net for the 20th consecutive year.

Pete Thomson (KE5GGY), of The 3916 Nets, commented on The Santa Net. He said, "We’re excited to be back on the air for another year of spreading holiday cheer on the ham bands.”

Youngsters can talk to "Santa at The North Pole" via strategically placed operators (Santa Net Relay Stations) who relay the voice of Santa. Thomson said the Santa Net relay stations are excited to be kicking off another year. He said, "Santa Net is a team effort with ham operators from across the country contributing their time to connect kids with Santa. It’s the highlight of the year for us on 3916."

In addition to connecting kids with Santa, Thomson said that Santa Net also brings young people into amateur radio. He added, “After 20 years on the air, we're starting to talk to the children of hams who participated in Santa Net in their youth. And every year we get reports of young people who become active in amateur radio after participating in Santa Net.”
