Honor and Rememberance

Today of course is Veterans Day, a day when the nation honors all who served.  Originally Armistice Day, which commemorated the end of Word War I on the 11th day of the 11th month, the celebration was eventually expanded to honor all American Veterans.  We salute all brothers in arms especially those who never made it back.

Today also marks another celebration of sorts for me.  It's the birthday of my paternal grandmother, Mary Murphy Hanrahan.  She was born in 1879 and passed in 1969 when I was 19.  Even though she was born in Kings Cove on Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland, I remember her soft Irish brogue as a child.  So not only do I salute all veterans, but I also remember and thank Nana for her gift of my father.  May God bless her memory.
